TANAMERA Lemongrass Essential Oil captures that same bright, grassy sharpness in concentrated form, distilled from Cymbopogon citratus. It is clean, lemony and wide awake, the sort of scent that makes a shut-up room feel aired out within minutes. 10ml amber glass bottle.

TANAMERA water diffuser:
1. Open the water reservoir by lifting the lid. Add room-temperature water (distilled water is recommended) into the reservoir up to the fill line. Do not exceed the fill line.
2. Add 3-5 drops of your favourite TANAMERA essential oil into the water.
3. Replace the lid to cover the water reservoir.
4. Plug in the TANAMERA Aroma Diffuser and push the power switch to start diffusing.
5. Press the power switch on the left to cycle through the three-mode setting: Mode 1: 60 minutes cycle Mode 2: 120 minutes cycle Mode 3: 180 minutes cycle
6. When water runs out, the diffuser will automatically shut off.
7. Press the right power switch to turn on/off the warm light.

    It is the question everyone asks, and the honest answer is that citronella has the stronger reputation for this. Lemongrass and citronella are related and share similar compounds, but if repelling mosquitoes is your main reason for buying, citronella is the more established option.
  2. What is lemongrass essence oil?
    The same thing as lemongrass essential oil. “Essence oil” is a phrase many people search, but the product is a pure steam-distilled essential oil, not a diluted essence or a fragrance oil.
  3. Can I put lemongrass oil directly on my skin?
    No, and this one needs more care than most. Lemongrass is a known skin irritant, so dilute to around 1 to 2 drops per 10ml of carrier oil, patch test, and wait 24 hours. It is also not suitable for infants.
  4. How many drops of lemongrass oil should I use in a diffuser?
    Three to five. It is a strong, bright oil, so start at three in a small room and judge from there.
  5. Is lemongrass the same as serai?
    Yes. Serai is simply the Malay name for lemongrass. Serai wangi is a different plant, citronella.

    No. The oil is enormously more concentrated than the stalk and should never be ingested. Use fresh serai for anything culinary.

Serai or serai wangi? They are not the same grass

This trips up more people than you would expect, and it matters when you are buying.

Serai is lemongrass, Cymbopogon citratus. It is the one you cook with, the thick pale stalk you bruise before dropping into a curry. Its oil is lemony, grassy and clean.

Serai wangi is citronella, Cymbopogon nardus. A close relative, similar in appearance, but a different plant with a different oil. Citronella is the one with the long-established reputation for keeping mosquitoes at bay, and it is what goes into most repellent candles and coils.

Both come from the same genus, both smell lemony, and the two names are often used loosely by sellers, which is how people end up with the wrong bottle. If you want the kitchen-herb scent, you want serai. If mosquitoes are the main concern, citronella is the more established choice and TANAMERA sells that separately.

Where lemongrass earns its place in a Malaysian home

Think about the rooms in your house that never quite smell fresh. The kitchen after frying fish. The bathroom that gets no sun. The laundry area during a week of rain. These are the places lemongrass was made for.
